Now never let it be said that the Smoking Monkey is not in touch with the modern culture of the streets (for I be down wit da kids), nor that I pander to the whims of certain areas of the internet browsing community. It should therefore not cause any disruption if I were to randomly point out that my favourite member of popular musical ensemble Linkin Park is one Michael Shinoda.

Smoking Monkey Gets Political

Dear All

I wouldn’t usually use this site for anything other than random thoughts, slagging off crap TV, or generally taking the mick out of TechnoScouse. However, this is something that I feel really strongly about and not just because it’s potentially my job on the line.

As you may or may not have picked up, I am a criminal defence solicitor. Not the most popular profession in the world, but a pretty damn important one. The profession offers an assurance that everyone, no matter who they are or what they have allegedly done, has someone to speak on their behalf if they are accused of a criminal offence.

Smoking Monkeys Blog

There are times when you need to gaze upon something of real beauty. Times when this dirty, depressing world gets too much for even an eternal optimist such as the Smoking Monkey, and I need my faith restored that there are items of pure physical perfection that exist and replenish the soul.

My apologies as ever for the sporadic nature of my submissions. Unfortunately work and the real world have got in the way of spouting bile and bilge on here. On top of that, someone seems to have cruelly swapped my spine with one from a 130 year old corpse, which means that on occasion I can’t walk without feeling like I’ve been shot in the kidneys by a Sherman Tank.

My suffering is inconsequential however, when compared to the guilt ridden anxiety that every single British citizen has had to endure for the last 7 days because of Simon Cowell and Britain’s Got Talent.

Coming straight to a dvd near you this summer!

There’s no doubt about it, January and 2008 are well and truly here. I wasn’t sure for the first couple of weeks, but the evidence is undeniable. This means that supermarkets are already selling easter eggs and chocolate bunnies (well there’s only 3 full months until Easter). They look quite bizarre when they are located right next to the advent calenders that are still reduced to clear. Also January brings the glut of adverts for summer holidays and opportunities to start saving money for Christmas 2008 with shopping calenders. That’s right, you’ve survived Christmas without being declared bankrupt so celebrate by going to Majorca this summer while saving up for a hamper full of spam.
